Those fine lines and wrinkles can really affect the way you look and feel about yourself, but what if you don’t want to go through the expense and pain of a facelift? There are some in-office wrinkle treatments that you might want to look into. These treatments are done in your doctor's office in an outpatient procedure and are fairly painless, easy, and are effective.
Botox is one treatment for wrinkles. This treatment works for crows feet and forehead wrinkles that are caused by repeated expressions over our lifetime that have left permanent creases in the skin. In this treatment the Botulinum toxin is used to produce a protein that is injected into the muscle and prevents it from moving, thus smoothing out creases in the skin. This is only a temporary fix, however, and usually lasts 3 to 6 months, at which time a person will either need another injection or to choose some other option.
Another wrinkle treatment option is to use an injectable collagen to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. This is safe for almost all areas of the face - lip lines, crows feet, cheeks and forehead. The collagen literally fills in the area, plumping it up and reducing the wrinkle. Although allergy testing needs to be done before this treatment is done, it typically has no side effects. This, too is not permanent and people relying on it must have treatments every 2 to 4 months.
Fat grating is another more involved treatment and involves taking fat from the abdomen and putting it in the lip area to fill out the lips and reduce wrinkles.
In some cases, implants can be used in the forehead, cheek folds, and lips to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. However, in most cases it is used to reconstruct defects in soft tissue. There are two types of implants - one is human collagen matrix and the other is a synthetic polymer material. The synthetic material provides a more long lasting change and is performed under local anesthesia in the office and has a short recovery period.
These are a few of the wrinkle treatment options that are not quite as drastic or expensive as cosmetic surgery. This is a growing market however, so look for more advances and even better options in the near future.
